Does it Jibe with the Bible?
When I’m faced with a new “idea”, whether spiritual, business or otherwise, I like to look for corrollaries, especially ancient ones. In other words, ideas from other paradigms and schools of thought that seem to match up with the new idea and support it. See all religions and schools of thoughts are ways of taking the “truth” as best we can define it and then putting into a “box” for the purpose of homogenization, making the “look and feel” of the paradigm the same so we can communicate it, teach it (and argue about it) to and with others. So when I discover a new idea, then find several parallels in ancient religions or schools of thought, I know I’m onto something that just might be the all elusive “truth”.
And example:
The newer age announcement of “We are all one, and what we send out comes back to us” can be found in a few other places. The Bible … “Verily I say unto you, whatever you do unto the least of these my bretheren, you do unto me”. In wiccan religion “whatever you send out comes back multiplied times 3″. Now I’m sure you can find dozens or hundreds more of these parallels and corrollaries and use this technique to discover whether or not there might be some more truth behind the new thought or idea.
